Location description : Kastel - Castelvenere The top of the hill, by extending the view of the valley of the river Dragonja was inhabited in prehistoric times. The archaeological excavations on the slopes indicate clearly indicate the existence of a fortified castle, which was, in terms of its position of strategic importance. After the Roman conquests, the fortress became a Castrum Castrum Veneris and bears the name, probably in connection with the temple of a pagan goddess was dedicated. According to another interpretation of the toponym refers to Castrum veins, along the line of the hill on which the settlement.
