In the western part, the fantastic, medieval Pazin Castle (Kastel) lies 130 m above the cliff where the Pazinčica River flows into the Pazin Pit: this is where the novel Mathias Sandorf by the famous French writer Jules Verne, published in 1885, takes place . Nowadays there is a Jules Verne club in Pazin and “Jules Verne Days” take place every year at the end of June.
