The house is at 400 mts above sea level in the Lake Scutari Natural Park (Skadar), 25 minutes by car from the airport and the capital of Montenegro, Podgorica; 15 minutes from the historical centre of Cetinje; 35 minutes from the beaches and an hour and 30 minutes from the UNESCO sites of Cattaro (Bay of Kotor) and the mountain range of Durmitor (with ski slopes). Lake Scutari, the most important natural reserve with pelicans, heron, cormorants and vast ‘meadows’ of water lilies, is 20 minutes away.
The house stands on a private spot of 10.000 sq. with a 360 degree view, mostly over Lake Scutari, which stretches for over 80 kms. The site is on a plain on the edge of a small, idillic valley with several traditional inhabited stone houses and a small church.
The house is approached by a private, lit drive and has an infinity pool facing the lake and parking for several cars. There is an underground, rainwater cistern of 40.000 liters (there is no mains water). The house is connected to the main electric supply grid, but features also an electric diesel generator for emergencies. There is wifi (3G), Sat TV, heating and cooling hidden in the ceiling with controls in each room.
The house is T-shaped, on split levels and with a glass surface of ca. 70 sq. Facades differ observing the lower and upper block of the house. The lower block is characterized by hand-hewn stone, and used material that originates directly from the site. The upper block is characterized by a Corten steel ventilated facade system, fixed panels with hidden hanging in combination with sliding shutters and perforated steel surfaces. The interior of the building is characterized by clean straight lines, with a variety of volumes and openings thus accentuating views and identity of the area. The materialization of interior space features a clean and bright colors and the use of natural materials.
On the lower floor there are 3 double bedrooms each with an en-suite bathroom; the main bedroom has a window of 15 sq. overlooking the lake. On the upper floor, there is a living room with 2 windows of 18 sq. each, the kitchen and the master bedroom with an en-suite bathroom with bath and beautiful views of the lake. There is a 5th bathroom on a lower floor. The property can sleep 8-10 people. On the upper floor there is a furnished veranda with sofas and a dining table and 2 further terraces. The house has been furnished with top-designer, Italian furniture (modern), a few pieces of antique furniture (1500-1600 Italian) and some pieces of art work by famous Italian artists. The mattresses are new, orthopedic and with memory foam made to measure. There are 2 fridges and 2 freezers. A maid is available for a few hours a day.
Villa La Tout was selected and nominated for the 2015 Mies van der Rohe Award in European Architecture. The Serbian film maker Vladimir Todorovic has produced a documentary (KARST) about the building of the property which was presented and acclaimed in various international film festivals.
